Jytte Fogh Lokvig
Jytte Fogh Lokvig, Ph.D. is a nationally recognized Alzheimer’s and dementia specialist and a strong proponent of progressive and person-centered eldercare since the mid-1990s. Lokvig holds a doctorate in management of Alzheimer’s and dementia caregiving and is the author of several popular books on individualized approaches to effective eldercare. She has had considerable success in her work with people living with dementia, from the early stages through the very late stages. She’s frequently invited to speak at national conferences and other events. Lokvig works with families, guiding them through the dementia wilderness; she trains facility staff on person-centered caregiving protocols and creativity programs based on the Montessori approach.
In October, 2008, Lokvig started the Alzheimer’s Cafe in Santa Fe, the first such project in the United States. In the years since she has continued to mentor other communities to start their own. Before COVID brought pretty much everything to a halt, there were well over 500 Alzheimer’s and memory cafes in this country.
